CHAPTER THREE

The next day, “And your mother never did anything!” Camilla exclaimed in surprise. Both girls were sitting on a bench in the park. Mia rubbed her red cheek and nodded in answer. “You have to put him in prison.” Camilla told her. Mia grinned. “Thanks to that Jake, you got a smack on your face.” Camilla added. “I know and he is such a loser.” Mia agreed. “That reminds me. I have seen an art competition poster and I thought you can join it.” Camilla told her. Mia smiled and hugged her friend. “Come on before a lot of people crowd around the poster.” Camilla urged her as she dragged Mia away.

Unfortunately, there was a crowd of kids looking at the poster. Mia managed to squeeze in and she read the information. Jake then came in and he pushed his way through the crowd and snatched the poster from the wall. The kids began to grumble. “Hoot all you can. I just want you to know that I will win this competition. So save yourselves the embarrassment by drawing out from the competition.” Jake boasted. Mia stepped out. “It is a free country. Didn’t you hear? Nobodies aren’t allowed here.” Mia shot at him. The kids cheered for her. Camilla smiled. Jake laughed. “You have got guts.” Jake sneered. “Can’t you see? Your stupid joke yesterday made her get a slap on the cheek yesterday.” Camilla blurted out and Jake now noticed the red mark on Mia’s cheek. His expression softened. “I am really sorry.” Jake apologized. Mia glared at him. “Whatever.” Mia said and she went up to him and snatched the poster from him. Mia gave it to the children and left with Camilla. The kids ignored the pitiful Jake standing there in a daze.

“Alright, the poster said you should draw from your heart. That won’t be hard. I will give some days to focus on it.” Camilla told her. “But what about my mom? She won’t let me join.” Mia said in a sad tone. “Don’t worry; you can surprise her and your family.” Camilla suggested. “That is a great idea! Thanks, Camilla!” Mia exclaimed in excitement. “Let’s get some pies from my parents’ restaurant.” Camilla said and Mia smiled. Both girls raced off.

“So any ideas?” Camilla asked for the tenth time. Mia shook her head. It had been 2 weeks and Mia hadn’t found a single drawing to do. “The deadline is in 3 days. What will you do? Besides do your brothers know about it?” Camilla asked. Mia gave her a weary smile. “Yes, they also think it is a good idea to surprise my mom and they won’t tell anybody.” Mia answered. “Anyway, you have already registered, so find a drawing soon.” Camilla told her. Just then Jake came along. “Hi, girls.” He said. “What do you want?” Camilla asked in a cold voice. “I came to apologize for my lame joke. I am really sorry, Mia.” Jake apologized. “Okay, you are forgiven, now you can leave.” Mia dismissed him. “I came to also encourage you to not to give up. Draw from your heart and you will be alright.” Jake encouraged her and left.

“I guess Jake is right. Don’t give up. I will see you at the final day at the building.” Camilla told her and left. Mia nodded and became thoughtful.

  CHAPTER FOUR

“Where is your sister?” their mom questioned. “She is in her room.” Mark answered. “Today too. This is getting strange.” Their mom commented as she took a spoonful of her food. The family was eating dinner on the table and Mia had been absent for 2 days now. “She is probably whining by now.” Pitch cut in. Max and Mark glared at him. Max kicked Pitch under the table and he cried out in pain. “My sister has better manners than you.” Max defended his sister. “Mom, I am retiring to bed. Pitch just made me lose my appetite.” Mark excused himself and went to his room. Max followed his brother. Mia came in a few minutes and she took a biscuit from the jar. She grinned at her mom and ignored her stepfather and left the room. Her mom burst into laughter and Pitch sulked.

The Final day came, people had attended the competition and the program began to start. The presenter welcomed the guests and the judges. The program was held at a small building in the neighborhood. Many kids’ drawings were shown and judges studied each of them. Camilla and Mia were even there. Jake’s drawing of a motorcycle was one of the best drawings and Mia felt that he will win, but unexpectedly Mia had won the competition. The judges explained that they loved her drawing of nature and the designs she used. One of the judges was a rich person who wanted to sponsor Mia and wanted her to continue to draw out designs. Mia never felt happier and Camilla was really happy for her.

A lot of people gave her congrats and she beamed. Jake also came to gave his congrats. Mia smiled. “Have I hurt your pride?” she teased. “No, you just entered my heart.” He confesses and blushed. Mia became shocked. “So all this time, worrying me was just because of your crush on me.” Mia blurted out. Jake slowly nodded. Mia laughed and held her hand to him. “Come on and let’s break the news to my family. We are going in a limo my sponsor has got for me. We will go with Camilla.” Mia said and she grinned. Jake smiled and took her hand. Camilla saw them and she laughed. They all went to the waiting silver limo.

The limo arrived at the apartment and they all went to Mia’s room. Her mom was shocked to see them. Mia’s sponsor explained the whole story and her mom burst out with excitement. She hugged her daughter and her sons. The twins and Mia exchanged grins. Pitch frowned and folded his arms. “You can come along with us. As long as you get a job and treat my mom better.” Mia told him. Pitch bowed his head in defeat and nodded. “You are just like your mother.” Pitch commented in a low tone. Mia grinned. “Now let’s all go to Camilla’s restaurant to celebrate.” Mia announced. Everybody including Pitch went along to celebrate. Mia smiled. Her dream was about to become a reality.

  THE END.
